Upcoming Workshops:

Individual Fundraising: "Getting To The Greener Grass"
Association for Neighborhood and Housing Development
Thursday  November 5, 9:30 am - 12:00 pm
Fee: $75/person ($50/person for ANHD members)

Community-based groups are terrific at building a loyal following among neighborhood residents, clients and local businesses and their professional peers.  Many hold successful grassroots fundraising events such as local dinners and raffles.  Before the tightening of the economy, particularly bank supporters could be counted on to support galas and other anniversary events.  Yet many Executive Directors look at the contributions of individuals to other types of charities and wonder: "Am I leaving money on the table?"  The answer is most certainly, "Yes."

You will take the first steps in learning how to:
o "Lead with your mission" to dispel your board members' fear of asking for money
o Transform your program events to draw in potential donors and to deepen your connections with existing supporters
o Move new friends through the sequence of stranger-friend-donor-solicitor
o Turn providers of in-kind support and advice into donors
o Engage with your supporters year-round, not just when it's time to ask for money
o Discovering the power of your staff, board and even clients to bring you new contacts and resources

Who should attend: Fundraising decision makers including Executive Directors, Development Directors and Chairs of Board Fundraising Committees

Special Events Fundraising in a Changing Economy
Nonprofit Coordinating Committee of New York
Wednesday November 11, 9:30 am - 12:00 pm
Free; Open to NPCC Members Only

In today's constantly shifting economy, how can organizations confidently take the plunge to invest resources in special events when outcomes seem uncertain at best?  "Because it worked last time" just isn't good enough these days.  But even now, special events can still raise money, introduce new donors to your organization, convince current donors to upgrade their gifts, help you recognize major givers and attract new Board members, and deepen your Board members' and supporters' engagement in fundraising.  Led by Susan Gabriel and Judy Levine of Cause Effective: Nonprofit Resource Development Center, this workshop will provide interactive opportunities to plan a successful fundraising strategy for your special events, beginning well before the Save the Date and maximizing every ounce of potential gain.

Who should attend: This workshop is for Executive Directors and Directors of Development

Getting Started with Individual Donors
Foundation Center
Thursday December 3, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Free; Pre-registration Required

This workshop will cover why people give and why, in particular, they might contribute to your organization or cause.  What makes someone a good potential donor?  How can you affect that and build their interest?  How can you use your Board and other organizational "friends" to reach out beyond the inner circle?  How can you influence the odds so that it's more than likely you'll get a "yes"?

Even in this economy it is possible to raise new dollars from individual donors.  Let Cause Effective: Nonprofit Resource Development Center introduce you to the proven tools and techniques for cultivating and soliciting your network of organizational friends.  Even with a small fundraising team, great results are possible.

Who should attend: Anyone affiliated with a nonprofit who's interesting in boosting their organization's return from individual donors, especially Executive Directors and Directors of Development, Board Members, and Fundraising Volunteers

Recent Workshops:

Special Events Fundraising: Getting the Most from Your Efforts
Friday, June 12, 2009, 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Henry A. Wallace Center at the FDR Presidential Library and Home, Hyde Park,  NY

Presented by The Dyson Foundation, The Community Foundation of Dutchess County, and The Ulster County Community Foundation

Special events can raise money, introduce new donors to your work, convince your organization's current donors to upgrade their gifts, get Board members and supporters involved in bringing in new prospects, as well as help your organization recognize major givers and attract new Board members - the potential fundraising return from special events is huge.

Conversely, we've all been to events where "we didn't raise any money but everyone had a good time..." The key to success is knowing what you want to accomplish and being clear how each element of the event's preparation and program will add to your fundraising return - especially important in the current economic climate.

This workshop for Executive Directors and Directors of Development is led by Susan Gabriel and Judy Levine of Cause Effective: Nonprofit Resource Development Center, and will provide interactive opportunities to assess and improve your organization's fundraising return from special events, with special emphasis on creating successful events even in the face of today's economic challenges.

Monday, April 20 2009 at 2 pm EST

With shrinking fundraising budgets and increased pressure to raise more, we can't afford to waste time and money on fundraising activities simply because "we've always done it that way."  Take your development program to the next level during the recession by being clearer about your fundraising goals and how to achieve them.  This webinar will help you determine which aspects of your fundraising are working, which aren't and why - and what you can do about it.  Attendees of this webinar learned the important questions to ask, who to involve in the process, and how fundraising evaluation can make your fundraising results more productive than ever.
