SkillBuilders: Basic Fundraising Workshop

This workshop will cover why people give money to nonprofits and why, in particular, they might contribute to yours.  Learn how to create a compelling case for support, to deliver your pitch successfully and to raise more money from a more diverse group of people.  Led by Judy Levine and Gregory Cohen of Cause Effective: Nonprofit Resource Development Center, the workshop will provide practical exercises to assess and improve your organization's grassroots fundraising success, and will offer NPCC members an opportunity to participate in a longer-term, low-cost fundraising training and support program that is part of the NPCC SkillsBuilders series.

2008 Fundraising and Friend-raising Institute

DO YOU WISH YOU COULD RAISE MORE MONEY FROM MORE PEOPLE?

What: A two and half-day Institute, sponsored by the Rockefeller Brothers Fund and facilitated by Cause Effective.  Learn how to develop a comprehensive, realistic fundraising plan and expand your base of individual donors, including how to:

  • Set and reach realistic fundraising goals for private donors
  • Involve your Board, staff and friends in your fundraising efforts
  • Jumpstart and/or upgrade your individual donor efforts
  • Use strategies to cultivate and recognize donors more effectively
  • Develop a compelling case for individual donors about your agency's activities

The Institute is designed for both group learning and one-on-one advice.  The full day sessions offer tools and tips mixed with opportunities to create components of individualized action plans.  The half-day session is devoted to your progress – sharing your triumphs, analyzing the obstacles your group is facing, and finding sector- and organization-specific solutions.  The Institute also includes individual consulting follow-up sessions with your organization along with phone consultations in between the group sessions.

Cause Effective, a New York-based nonprofit, has over 25 years experience helping community-based nonprofits to strategically plan and implement effective resource development strategies.  The result: our clients build their capacity to sustain themselves by diversifying their sources of income.

WHO:   Directors of Development or Executive Directors for groups without senior development staff.  (This series is designed for those responsible for the daily management of the fundraising efforts of the staff and Board.)  The second full-day workshop will also require one Board member to attend.
