Greg Cohen

Gregory Cohen joined Cause Effective in 2006, serving as Associate Director before becoming Senior Advisor in 2020. Greg has provided coaching and training to the board and staff of hundreds of clients, primarily in the areas of fundraising planning, donor development and governance. He specializes in converting resistant boards into competent and effective fundraisers, developing board leaders and helping startups to attract the resources they need for growth. He is an experienced workshop leader, retreat facilitator and coach to executive directors and board chairs.
For over 40 years, Greg has worked with a range of nonprofits including establishing eleven start-ups in areas as diverse as youth development, energy efficiency, global health and low income cooperative housing. Among the nonprofits he has helped launch, Greg managed a collaboration of global health organizations focused on outcome measurement. He founded and ran Comprehensive Youth Development, Inc. (formerly CDI) a youth development organization, featured on page one of the New York Times and Now With Bill Moyers, for 11 years. Previously, Greg oversaw housing development at the New York Urban Coalition. Greg served on the board of Nonprofit New York (formerly NPCC), New York City’s association of 1,200 nonprofits, for 20 years. He was a participant in Coro's Leadership NY II class and holds a BA from Union College.
