Preeti Mangala Shekar, Development Director, Hindus for Human Rights

Preeti Mangala Shekar is a feminist journalist, writer and fundraiser with over 15 years’ experience working in social justice, and movement building. Currently, Preeti is the fundraising lead for Hindus for Human Rights, the only progressive interfaith organization challenging Hindu fundamentalism in the US and globally. Previously, she was the fundraising director of Equality Labs, a cutting-edge feminist Dalit rights organization where she helped grow the budget from $600,000 to over $2 million in less than two years. Preeti has organized with leading universities including the Center for South Asia Studies at UC Berkeley, the Women’s and Gender Studies Center at MIT, and most recently, the Center for Women’s Global Leadership at Rutgers University. Previously Preeti has been the Executive Director of Narika, an organization working to end domestic violence in the South Asian community in the bay area. Since 2014, Preeti has actively consulted with several leading social justice organizations including Thousand Currents, United We Dream, the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, Urgent Action Fund for Human Rights, East Bay Community Foundation, and Grassroots Global Justice. Preeti is a contributing editor with Reimagine Race, Poverty and the Environment, a leading journal focused on intersectional social and environmental justice analyses.
